WHAT IS BLUE FLAG CERTIFICATION?

 

A waving blue flag is an indication of 100% compliance to the 33 stringent criteria and sound health of the beach.

It is an internationally recognized eco-label . Criterias are divided into four major heads 

1. Environmental education and information
2. Bathing water quality
3. Environmental management
4. Conservation and safety services in the beaches.

• Blue flag beaches are considered as the cleanest beaches in the world. It is an eco- tourism to provide the tourists clean and  hygienic bathing water and other facilities.
• It is accorded by international jury composed of - UNEP, United Nations World Tourism Organisation, Denmark based NGO Foundation for Environmental Education and IUCN.
• On the lines of Blue Flag certification , India has also launched its own eco-label BEAMS (Beach Environment and Management services.
