WHAT IS THE SYLLABUS FOR QUALIFYING PAPER IN UPSC MAINS?

 

Qualifying paper includes Indian languages and English.

The aim of the paper is to test the candidate's ability to read and understand serious discursive prose , and express his/ her ideas clearly and correctly , in English and the Indian Language concerned . The Pattern of questions would be broadly broadly as follows :-

  1. Comprehension of given passages
  2. Precis Writing
  3. Usage and Vocabulary
  4. Short Essays 
  5. In Indian Languages translation from English to the Indian language and Vice Versa
The papers on Indian Languages and English will be of Matriculation or Equivalent standard and will be qualifying nature only. The marks obtained in these papers will not be counted for ranking.

We have to answer the English and Indian Languages papers in English and the respective Indian Languages.(except where translation is involved)

STRATEGY

We don not have to worry about this section, A person who can read and write well be able to Qualify this paper. News paper reading will help us a lot to improve our language. We need to score 25%  in this paper to qualify. That is Out of 300 minimum mark needed is 75. Indian language is selected from the languages included in eighth schedule.
