India-Switzerland: Five Agreements Signed During Swiss President's State Visit (UPSC Notes)
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Swiss President Guy Parmelin held talks in New Delhi on 5 October 2026, and the two countries signed five agreements. Parmelin is on a three-day state visit. This is a useful GS II (international relations) topic, linked to the India-EFTA trade deal.

- Migration and Mobility Partnership
- Exchange of Young Professionals
- Cooperation on transportation technologies, mobility systems and infrastructure in identified areas
- Letter of Intent between the Department of Science and Technology (India) and the Swiss National Science Foundation
- Implementation Arrangement for cooperation in innovation, technology transfer and entrepreneurship
What else was said
- PM Modi said India implemented the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) last October, India's first FTA with a European bloc.
- Under TEPA, India aims to attract USD 100 billion in investment and create ten lakh direct jobs over 15 years.
- Market access for Indian agricultural products, pharmaceuticals, textiles and engineering goods to Switzerland is to improve.
- Swiss investment is sought in biotechnology, life sciences, banking, insurance, food processing and sustainability.
- Both sides identified cooperation in military exchanges and defence production, and agreed to deepen cooperation in nuclear energy.
