WHAT IS UNFCCC?

 

UNFCCC stands for United Nations Framework Convention Climate Change . It is an international environmental treaty, It seeks to reduce atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases with the aim of preventing dangerous anthropogenic interference with earth's climate system.

UNFCCC was signed in 1992 at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development also known as the earth summit.( Rio summit).

The framework requires individual participating countries to commit to stabilizing greenhouse emissions. There are 197 parties in the convention, they meet annually in the Conference of Parties to evaluate progress in dealing with climate change.
